| Joyce S.R. Yee | Design Dictator |

I am a practising designer and researcher in communication design, working as part of the New Media team at the Centre for Design Research, Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. In October 2006, I completed a PhD degree at Northumbria University, on developing a practice-led framework to promote the practise and application of typography across different media.

My professional and research practice lies in drawing together two worlds - the physical (paper, products, input devices) and the virtual (screen). My research interests are in the areas of: text-based communication in a multi-modal environment, typographic education for digital media and practice-based research methods for designers. My consultancy work involves developing research-led design solutions for application across different delivery media. This includes understanding user and interaction issues and developing a people-centred approach to design problems.
